Overview

M-1 Student Visa is applicable for international students who wish to enroll in non-academic vocational studies in the United States. Flight training, cooking classes, technical courses, mechanical classes etc are considered as vocational studies.

 

M-2 Student Dependent Visa – Dependents (spouse and children) of a M1 student visa holder is granted a M2 visa. You would need a M2 I-20 from your vocational school prior to visa application filing.

  • You have demonstrated satisfactory evidence that you have sufficient funds to study and live in the US without recourse to public funds

Requirements for a loan vary from bank to bank subject to their own terms and conditions, your credit scores, collateral etc. You would need to enquire at your bank branch for further information.

A F1 visa is for student enrolled for any academic or language course. A M1 visa is for a student enrolled in non-academic or vocational courses (Eg: flight training).

If you are a spouse and/or minor child of a student in the US, you qualify as a dependent. Children over the age of 21 are not eligible as dependents.

An Indian passport holder must apply for a M1 visa from India or their current country of residence if they wish to study in the US.

Typically, the processing time is 3/5 working days from the interview date. However, you would be notified if the embassy requires more time for verification etc.

 

OFC appointment is to be scheduled at least one day before the visa interview appointment.

 

Visa approval is at the sole discretion of the visa officer.

 

Once paid, this visa fee is neither refundable nor is it transferable to anyone else.

 

Sometimes, the embassy may request additional documents to aid their decision.

Biometric Requirments

Each applicants has to apply in person and submit their digital fingerprints at the scheduled OFC appointment except: 1: Applicants under the age of 14 or over the age of 79. 2: Applicants travelling on official government business.
