USA L1 / L2 VISA
Overview
L1 visa is a non-immigrant visa that permits an Indian passport holder to work in the US. It permits a US company to transfer a key employee from one of its offices in India to the United States as an intra-company transfer.
It also allows companies to open a US operation for the transfer of its executives, managers and specialized employees.
There are two types of L1 visa:
- L1-A is for managers and executives, who are either transferring to a US office, or coming into the US for the purposes of setting up a US office.
- L1-B is for specialized employees, who have essential specialist skills or knowledge.
L2 visa – spouse and unmarried children under 21 years of age of a L1 visa holder qualify for a L2 Dependent visa.

Completing the online DS160 form.
Step 2:
Creating online case profile.
Step 3:
Generating CGI and payment of applicable visa fee.
Step 4:
Scheduling the visa biometric (OFC) and interview appointments.
Step 5:
Collating all relevant documents including all financial related documents.
Step 6:
Sponsors documents.
Step7:
Appearing for the visa interview.
Step 8:
Collection of passport.

2 inches x 2 inches with 70 - 80% face in white background. Only required for children under 14 and drop-box eligible applicants.

Documents Required
- OFC and Interview appointment confirmation.
- DS160 confirmation.
- Form I-129
- Original passport with minimum 6 months validity prior to submission and with two available blank pages.
- Any previous / expired passport with an expired USA visa.
- Company support letter.
- Evidence of employment / business.
- Evidence of income, savings and investments.
- Sponsorship documents from India (if applicable).
- Sponsorship documents from USA (if applicable).
- Marriage certificate, children’s birth certificate (if applicable).
- ID docs.

Form I-129 is used by an employer to petition U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for an employee to come temporarily to the United States as a non-immigrant to perform services under the L1 visa.
If you are a spouse and/or minor child of a student in the US, you qualify as a dependent. Children over the age of 21 are not eligible as dependents.
Yes, they can apply at the same time or anytime later as well.
An Indian passport holder must apply for a M1 visa from India or their current country of residence if they wish to study in the US.
You can travel one month before start of the program.
No. You would need to pay a new visa fee and apply for a new visa.
Typically, the processing time is 3/5 working days from the interview date. However, you would be notified if the embassy requires more time for verification etc.
Yes. You need to carry both passports with you i.e. new passport (all the personal info must match the old passport) and the expired passport with a valid visa.
OFC appointment is to be scheduled at least one day before the visa interview appointment.
Visa approval is at the sole discretion of the visa officer.
Once paid, this visa fee is neither refundable nor is it transferable to anyone else.
Sometimes, the embassy may request additional documents to aid their decision.
Biometric Requirments
Each applicants has to apply in person and submit their digital fingerprints at the scheduled OFC appointment except: 1: Applicants under the age of 14 or over the age of 79. 2: Applicants travelling on official government business.
