Netherlands D Type / Long-Stay Visa

Overview

A Schengen “D” type visa or Long-Stay visa allows its holder to enter and stay in a Schengen country for more than 3 months.

It is issued for various purposes such as:

  • Study.
  • Academic Research.
  • Complete an internship or training program.
  • Employment.
  • Dependents of a D type visa holder.

 

You require a Schengen D type visa if you wish to travel to any of the 26 European countries in the Schengen area for longer than 90 days.

 

The applicant must submit an application for a D type / long-stay visa as well as all the supporting documents that are required according to the purpose of the intended stay.

The Schengen area comprises of 26 countries namely: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Netherlands, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Liechtenstein
Passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended stay in the Schengen area and have two available blank pages.
It is at the discretion of the visa officer at the Embassy if they wish to call you in for a personal interview or not.
No form of employment is permitted on a Business / Tourist visa.

Each applicants must have a medical / travel insurance cover of minimum €30,000 valid for the entire Schengen area and to cover the duration of the stay.
A Schengen visa is valid for all 26 countries in the Schengen area unless indicated otherwise on the visa stamp. If your visa is still valid, you do not need to apply for another visa.
Flight and hotel reservations to cover your entire duration of stay in the Schengen area is mandatory. VCS can assist you with reservations to meet the visa requirements (T&C apply).
Yes. You need to carry both passports with you i.e. new passport (all the personal info must match the old passport) and the expired passport with a valid visa.
