Frequently asked questions

An acceptance letter is sent to you by the university/college you have been accepted at. You need this to apply for the student visa. It certifies:

  • You are a bona fide student.
  • You meet the institute’s admission requirements.
  • You are enrolled for a full-time course of study.
  • Course fee including any scholarships being offered to you.

Passport must be valid for at least 6 months prior to application and have two available blank pages.

It is at the discretion of the visa officer at the Embassy if they wish to call you in for a personal interview or not.

Yes, you can work:

  • 20 hours per week during term, 40 hours per week duration vacations
  • Post Graduations Work Permit (PGWP) permits stay & work full time in Canada for maximum 3 years.
Spouse (dependents) who plan to work whilst in Canada have to apply for their Open Work Permit (once in Canada) that will allow them to work on or off campus full-time. It allows you to accept any job with any employer.

An Indian passport holder must apply for a Student visa from India or their current country of residence if they wish to study in Canada.
You can travel one month before start of course.
Yes. You need to carry both passports with you i.e. new passport (all the personal info must match the old passport) and the expired passport with a valid visa.

Once paid, this visa fee is neither refundable nor is it transferable to anyone else.

 
Sometimes, the embassy may request additional documents to aid their decision.

Biometric Requirments

All applicants have to appear in person in order to provide biometric data (fingerprints and digital photograph) at the scheduled visa submission appointment.
