UK Transit Visa

Overview

If you are passing through the UK on your way to another country, you might need a UK Transit Visa. This visa is necessary for travellers who have a layover in the UK and are not staying longer than necessary to catch their connecting flight. There are two types of UK Transit Visas:

  1. Direct Airside Transit Visa (DATV): Required if you will not pass through UK border control. This is suitable for those changing flights within the same airport and staying in the airport’s international transit area.
  2. Visitor in Transit Visa: Required if you will pass through UK border control, possibly to collect luggage or change airports, and leave the UK within 48 hours of your arrival.
